Antwerp, city of the hand
The saga of Antwerp is telling a story about a giant "Druon Antigoon". To pass the river Scheldt, he asked the people to pay taxes. People who didn't want to pay, were cut of their hand of by the giant Antigoon and he threw the hand in the river Scheldt. A brave Roman soldier "Silvius Brabo" had a fight with the giant, killed him and threw his hand in the river Scheldt. So that's why Antwerp has got it's name. "Antwerpen = hand throwing".The city is full of symbols, statues,... remembering this story and archeological workers have found remainings of the Roman village...

Visiting / sleeping in Antwerp
"Diamants are a girl best friends", so Antwerp must be a very good friend because Antwerp is one of the most important cities in the world for diamant trading. This city has many other special things to offer. The historical center is a beauty, with the holy cathedral, town hall, shopping street, a Zoo with international reputation, art and design center in Europe with a famous school for fashion designers,... In this city , the well known painter “Rubens” made most of his painting here and there is a museum about him.
If you come the Antwerp for the congress, you must be accompanied by your family or some friends. There is so much to see and discover in Antwerp. Transportation around and in the city is easy and there is even a biyicle-renting network. (There are different hotels nearby the congress center.
